ABOUT THE OWNER
Ashby Smith is originally from Virginia, where he gained early exposure to landscaping while working with his father to propagate multiple species of plants and trees. While in Virginia, he also worked at multiple nurseries and greenhouses. In 2001, he moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, to study Forestry at Northern Arizona University and pursue his love of the outdoors.
By the summer of 2005, he had shifted his focus to landscape installation and maintenance. Working with several startup landscape companies, he quickly rose from crew member to installation supervisor, eventually running an entire installation division.
During this time, Ashby acquired skill and expertise in estimating and scheduling jobs, organizing and implementing policies and procedures, hiring and supervising employees and subcontractors, and managing multiple simultaneous projects. In 2013, he decided to strike out on his own, and Deep Roots Landscaping was born.
When Ashby isn’t landscaping, you can usually find him bouldering, backpacking, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife, two dogs, and family in Flagstaff.
